Golden Pig BBQ: The Ultimate Pork Paradise in Seoul

The Growing Popularity of Geumdwaeji Sikdang

When I first visited a few years ago, the wait wasn’t this crazy. But oh boy, this place has blown up! Even on an early weekday evening, I had to wait about an hour to get in. Clearly, word has spread, and for good reason.

A Convenient Waiting System

These days, the waiting system is super convenient. You just register your phone number, and an app updates you on how many parties are ahead of you.

Pro tip: if the wait’s long, head to a nearby café, grab a coffee, and chill. That’s exactly what I did—braving the biting cold at a Starbucks near Yaksu Station while keeping tabs on my turn.

Why Is It Always Packed?

Every time I pass by this place near Yaksu Station, the sidewalk is packed with people waiting their turn. And guess what? That day was no exception. Why is it always buzzing, you ask? Well, this gem has been featured in the Michelin Guide for five consecutive years since 2019. It’s not just popular—it’s certified delicious. 💯

The Feast Begins: What We Ordered

Finally, after the long-awaited moment, I stepped inside! A kind staff member recommended we try the Bon Samgyeop (prime pork belly) and Nunkkot Moksal (marbled pork neck). Naturally, we went all out and added Deung Moksal (lean pork shoulder) and the whole-pork kimchi stew to the order.

And oh, they even hand you an adorable apron with a cute piggy on it. How could you not feel ready for a feast? 🐽💕

Then came the stars of the show: our Bon Samgyeop, Nunkkot Moksal, and Deung Moksal. They arrived gleaming and majestic, accompanied by foil-wrapped mushrooms, fresh scallions, and garlic cloves, ready for grilling. It was a sight to behold. 😍

Now, let me tell you about the whole-pork kimchi stew. If you think it’s just another side dish, THINK AGAIN. This stew was bursting with flavor and packed with so much pork it was practically spilling out of the pot. It was the perfect companion to all that meaty goodness. Honestly, skipping it would’ve been a rookie mistake.

debated whether to order rice or add ramen noodles to the stew but ended up just eating more pork. Because why not? 😜

Why Geumdwaeji Sikdang Lives Up to the Hype

There’s a reason this place is constantly packed and crowned one of Seoul’s top 3 BBQ joints. And no, it’s not just hype! The pork here is phenomenal—juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor, without a hint of that unpleasant porky smell. 🐷🔥

A Satisfying End to the Feast

By the end of it, the two of us somehow managed to demolish six servings of meat. I walked out full, satisfied, and already plotting my next visit. For me, the pork neck edged out the pork belly as the ultimate winner.
